String Bio provides a new way of using methane, a waste gas, to manufacture value-added products such as single cell proteins for animal nutrition. It has developed a platform that leverages methanotrophic bacteria which can convert methane to protein and can be used for animal feed.

The demand for protein is growing globally, due to increasing population and there is pressure on sourcing the protein whether it be from the land or from the sea due to climate change and competing demands. In addition, the market is increasingly asking for traceability in its food supply
